Stahlberg is the second-largest city in the Einsenland Republik and the capital of the federal state of Stahlland. Located in the upper Eisen River valley, Stahlberg has a population of approximately 982,000 (2025) and is the industrial heartland of the nation.

History

Stahlberg was founded as Stahlmark in 1024, growing around a cluster of iron forges and steel workshops. The city became the center of Einsenland's steel industry during the Industrial Revolution, earning the nickname Stahlstadt ("Steel City"). The city's massive steel mills, once the largest in Europe, have been partially converted into cultural and commercial spaces while modern production continues in newer facilities on the city's outskirts.

Economy

Stahlberg remains Einsenland's primary industrial city:

  • Steel and metallurgy — Einsen Stahl AG, one of Europe's largest steel producers, is headquartered here
  • Automotive manufacturing — the Eisenland Motor Works (EMW) assembly plant produces over 200,000 vehicles annually
  • Precision engineering — numerous firms specializing in machine tools, industrial equipment, and components
  • Logistics — Stahlberg's position on the Eisen River makes it a major inland freight hub

The city has invested heavily in economic diversification, with growing sectors in technology, clean energy, and research.

Landmarks

  • Stahlwerk Museum — an industrial heritage museum housed in a converted 19th-century steel mill
  • Marktplatz — the historic market square with the 15th-century Rathaus (City Hall)
  • Technical University of Stahlberg — one of Einsenland's top engineering universities, founded 1868
  • Eisen River Gorge — a dramatic natural feature on the city's southern edge

Transport

  • Stahlberg Hauptbahnhof — major railway junction on the national rail network
  • Stahlberg Cargo Port — the nation's largest inland freight port
  • Regional tram system with 8 lines
