Education in Einsenland is a primarily state responsibility, with the seven federal states managing their own educational systems within a national framework. Education is compulsory from ages 6 to 18 and free of charge at all public institutions, including universities. Einsenland's education system is widely regarded as one of Europe's most comprehensive.

Structure

The education system is organized into the following stages:

Stage Ages Duration Description
Kindergarten 3–6 3 years Optional pre-school education (>90% attendance)
Grundschule (Primary) 6–10 4 years Compulsory primary education
Sekundarschule (Secondary I) 10–16 6 years General secondary education
Oberstufe (Secondary II) 16–18 2 years Academic or vocational upper secondary
Hochschule (Tertiary) 18+ 3–6 years University, technical university, or polytechnic

Secondary tracks

After the Grundschule, students enter one of two secondary school types:

  • Gymnasium — academic track preparing students for university admission, culminating in the Reifeprüfung (maturity examination) at age 18
  • Realschule — practical-academic track, leading to vocational training or a technical upper secondary program

A comprehensive school (Gesamtschule) model combining both tracks has been introduced in several states since the 2000s.

Vocational education

The dual vocational training system (Berufsausbildung) is a cornerstone of Einsen education and economic competitiveness:

  • Students combine workplace apprenticeship (3–4 days/week) with vocational school (1–2 days/week)
  • Programs last 2–3.5 years
  • Over 300 recognized training occupations
  • Approximately 55% of young people enter vocational training
